Fenimore Art Museum Exhibit Highlights Refugee Souls & Immigrant Culture

The Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown is currently hosting an exhibit of two artists that capture refugee souls and immigrant culture. The work of Patrick Fiore and Halycon Westmass is currently on display as part of an exhibit to highlight refugees, immigrants, and the work of the Refugee Center. There will be an opening reception for the exhibit Thursday November 8th from 5:30pm-7:00pm at the Fenimore Art Museum located at 5798 STATE HIGHWAY 80, Cooperstown, NY 13326. The reception is free and open to the public. All are encouraged to attend.

2018 UNSPOKEN Human Rights Festival Events Announced: Features Veteran Kristin Beck

The Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees invites the public to the 8th annual UNSPOKEN Human Rights Festival Thursday, October 11th & Friday, October 12th, 2018. Thursday, October 11th will feature a Provider Training – Resiliency: Treating Trauma in Youth and Veterans at Delta Hotels by Marriott Utica from 8:00am-12:00pm. Tickets are $20 per participant. On Friday, October 12th, there will be a Festival Reception that will be held at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute- Sculpture Court beginning at 4:30pm. At 6:00pm in the MWPAI Auditorium, there will talk given by Kristin Beck, who is a retired United States Navy SEAL who gained public attention in 2013 when she came out as a trans woman, the first openly transgender former U.S. Navy SEAL. Beck has received multiple military awards and decorations, including a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Following the presentation, the film “Lady Valor: The Kristin Beck Story” will be shown in the MWPAI Auditorium. Tickets are $50 per attendee for the reception, which includes hors d'oeuvres and beer/wine/soda, as well as admittance to the presentation by Kristin Beck and feature film.
