MVRCR at 2016 Boilermaker
On Sunday July 10, 2016 Utica will be host to the Boilermaker Road Race and the Refugee Center will be showing our support and participating in two major ways. The Refugee Center will be represented along the International Mile with volunteers and international performers through the first mile of the course. During the 5K road race look for members of the Refugee Running Team who will be wearing shirts with the MVRCR logo and the One World Running Team blue man logo.

The Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees and Fidelis Care invite the public to join them in celebrating World Refugee Day on Saturday, June 18th in Hanna Park at Utica City Hall from 12 pm until 4 pm. Utica, a city known as The Town that Loves Refugees, is an especially appropriate place to commemorate refugees endurance and reflect on their contributions to the local community.

The Office for New Americans (ONA) at the Refugee Center is partnering with Mohawk Valley Community College to offer Adult English Classes. The program is free and available for those 18 and over. Popular spring break locations like Florida beaches and Mexican resorts allow students to forget about their anxieties and relax for a few days. In order to fairly represent the less sunny locales, MVRCR has a partnership with the University of Michigan to provide an Alternative Spring Break, with equally as much fun but with a socially conscious motivation.

The Re.Source Traditional Artisans invite you to join them for a holiday craft sale being held at the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees on December 4 from 10:00am to 4:30pm. A wide selection of jewelry and handmade textiles such as scarves and table runners will be available for purchase. All proceeds will be given to the artisan group to help fund their micro-enterprise.

The 5th Annual Unspoken Human Rights Film Festival and Conference opens today with a luncheon at SUNY Polytechnic from 11am to 2pm. The theme for this years conference is Refugees, Immigrants, and the Opportunity Agenda. The film festival portion of the event begins today and runs through Saturday October 3rd. The featured film for this years festival is I Learn America. The opening days events will conclude with a Utica Fire Fly Storytelling event at 7:00pm tonight at the Tramontane Café.

The Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees has an immediate need for safe and affordable housing. The Refugee Center will continue to have a need for apartments for 2015 and 2016. In addition to our immediate needs we are looking to establish relationships with community housing providers to support our resettlement program in the coming years.

The Mohawk Valley Latino Association is proud to present the 10th Annual Latino American Festival, Sunday, August 23 from noon to 6 p.m. at Hanna Park in Utica. This year, we are collaborating with the NAACP Utica/ Oneida County branch and the American Heart Associations Have Faith in Heart Go Red for Women campaign.
